About the Team

Hell-bent on blowing HR’s politically correct, ‘jobsworth’ stereotype out the water, we talk plainly, think commercially and act shrewdly with one end in mind: your business’s survival. That’s when we are at work on your business.  This is a snapshot of the Streetwise HR Team and what makes them tick out of hours!

Debbie Cohen

Managing Director (The HR Guru)

Who is your hero and why?

Without getting too emotional, it’s got to be my Mum. She taught me right from wrong and to treat people the way I’d want to be treated. If ever I went off track she would refer to me as Debra!!

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

People who think they are too important to queue up like the rest of us!  I am not sure I deal with this at all well, as I just end up getting more and more annoyed which doesn’t help!

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found?

We all know how much I love food so when I am not eating out with Joe and friends you’ll find me at the gym working off the calories or else walking Mylo and Basil (my two furry kids).

Becky Chamberlain

HR Executive (The Go To Girl)

Who is your hero and why?

My son Jack is my little super hero J He has changed my life like no other human being could come close to! I may re-evaluate this once the teenage years hit 😉

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

People who have no manners! It is unnecessary. A deep breath and a count to ten usually works, although my facial expression usually gives them an indication as to how rude I think they are.

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found

On my yacht in the Bahamas……..Ok I’m not quite there yet! You will find me with friends and family quite possibly with a large gin and tonic in my hand

HR Assistant (The HR Super Star)

Who is your hero and why?

There are a few people in my life that I look up to for different reasons – my husband, parents, friends, old teachers, old bosses. They’ve all influenced my life in some way and made me who I am today.

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

People who aren’t honest – I know it’s difficult sometimes, but just say it how it is. Oh and also forgetting to remove a tissue from a pocket before putting it in the washing machine. Nightmare!

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found

Spending time with my beautiful daughter, eating food I shouldn’t or in front of the TV watching some box set back to back with a glass of red wine.

HR Administrator (The HR Geek)

Who is your hero and why?

I’m fortunate to have a lot of people in my life who are all amazing in their own way, I couldn’t possibly list them all!

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

People who don’t say please or thank you. I just make sure I’m extra polite to them in return 🙂

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found

I love cooking so you will probably find me in the kitchen or looking through one of my many many cookbooks for some inspiration!

Laura McHarrie

Non-Exec Director (The Hidden Edge)

Who is your hero and why?

David Bowie has stood the test of ‘time’. I was a teenager when I first heard ChangesOne and loved it. I have all his albums in one form or another, even have two copies of Tin Machine!!

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

Chewing gum! Can’t bear the smell, the taste, the sound or the look. I ask people to spit it out. Have lost a few friends but not that many!

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found?

I love music, festivals and the great outdoors, I’m not averse to a little two man tenting in the Summer, and plenty of après ski dodgy dancing in the Winter.

Martin Cavey

Finance (The Chorus Accountant)

Who is your hero and why?

My dad for teaching me never to go chasing the money as it will always find you when you do a good job.  My girls for giving me the inspiration to keep going and to keep my feet on the ground!

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

People asking questions rather than providing a solution to an issue. I ask a question back and get them to come up with the answer. Doesn’t always work but what’s life without a challenge!

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found?

If I’m not with my girls then I’m hitting or lifting something, be that a tennis ball, some boxing pads or the odd weight. In winter, I’ll be on two planks somewhere on a slope or in the occasional tree!!

Employment Law (The Direct Barrister)

Who is your hero and why?

I respect people as diverse as the Queen, the Dalai Lama and Simon Cowell, I’d like to incorporate a little of their serenity, wisdom, compassion and joi de vivre into my life.

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

I can’t stand people who aren’t thankful. Thankful for what they’ve got. I’m sure nothing grates more with an ungrateful person than external gratitude being bestowed on them!

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found?

Not at work? Tis rare but I’ll be sitting by the sea with a cold beer or glass of wine in hand, enjoying the soporific murmur of the sea on the shore and drinking in the peace.

Kevin McCloskey

Health & Safety Practioner (Just Health & Safety)

Who is your hero and why?

I don’t have one – should I? OK then, Mariah Carey because she sang ‘The Hero Lies In You’

What is your pet hate and how do you deal with it?

I have a  few pet hates – aggressive dogs, moody cats, budgies and tortoises: I avoid them.

When you are not at work where are you most likely to be found?

Sounds like you want to burgle my house! What is ‘not at work’ anyway?
